Our History
On July 23, 1963, a group of 54 Manatee County Residents submitted a charter petition to the National Office of the NAACP to begin operating a Branch in Manatee County. This group of
justice fighters met at the Rogers Methodist Church on 9th Avenue West and 3rd Street in Bradenton, FL.

The National Office received the application on July 31, 1963 and subsequently charted Manatee NAACP 5113-B on September 18, 1963.
Over the span of 60 plus years, a number of individuals have served as President of the Branch to include individuals such as Rev. C.D. Lazier, William Gibson, Irene Ingram, Ted Jenkins, Edward Bailey, Susie Copeland, Rodney Jones, Tarnisha Cliatt, Robert Powell, Luther Wilkins, and Tracey Washington, to name a few.
